Appointment of Dr. Hubert Mandery as new Cefic Director General

Brussels, 4 June 2009 - The Board of Cefic today gave approval to the appointment of Dr. Hubert Mandery as Cefic Director General Designate in succession to Alain Perroy on his retirement on 31 October 2009. The appointment is subject to ratification by Cefic General Assembly in Lisbon on 3rd October 2009.

The appointment is the culmination of a wide search, assessment and interview process, organised through the Nominations Committee of Cefic, with the support of Odgers Berndtson.

It is expected Hubert Mandery will join Cefic in mid-August to allow time for a smooth transition. Cefic is driving and promoting the competitiveness of the Industry, through a number of initiatives and action programmes, at a most difficult time for European Chemicals. It is expected that Hubert Mandery will play a vital part in leading these programmes, as well as developing a long-term vision and strategy, for the Industry’s future success.

The Board offered its congratulations to Hubert Mandery with its best wishes for a successful and rewarding career.

The Board also recognised the achievements of and the debt owed to Alain Perroy, in successfully and creatively guiding the Industry over the last 10 years.

Hubert Mandery (55) holds a degree in Organic Chemistry and a PHD, Food Chemist, from the Technical University of Karlsruhe. He started his career at BASF in research and became Group Leader for Analytics Chromatography in the BASF Central Analytical Laboratory. In 1993 he was appointed Director Product Safety in the International Chemical Regulatory Affairs service and promoted Vice-President International Economic Relations in 2000 and later Senior Vice-President Trade Policy and General Political Issues.

Hubert Mandery served as Sherpa of Eggert Voscherau, Member of the Board of BASF, during his time as President of the Board of Cefic from 2002 to 2004. Since 2007 he is Managing Director Business Centre South Africa and Sub-Sahara and Head of BASF South Africa.

The Nomination Committee is a Board Committee of Cefic in charge of preparing proposals to the Board and General Assembly for election of Board Members according to statutes and appointment of the Cefic Director General. The Nomination Committee is chaired by Tony Bastock, Vice-President of Cefic, and is composed of Christian Jourquin, President of Cefic, Wolfgang Plischke, Vice-President, Ian Hudson and Christian Moretti, Cefic Board members.
