AID INNOVATION CHALLENGE

THE WINNERS ARE ANNOUNCED

GreenCo Water wins the best business entry for the Pak Flat Tank

16 November 2016, Brussels: Now in its sixth year, the Aid Innovation Challenge seeks to uncover the next big invention for the humanitarian aid and development community, to help those who supply aid products globally.

The award is open to all design agencies, engineering companies and budding young designers and engineers who are not currently working for a company/organization, presenting a unique chance to pitch life-changing inventions to a panel of experts from the community.

It is a unique chance to pitch life-changing inventions to a panel of experts from the sector.

This year, our finalists were:

Following a live pitch process, GreenCo Water took home the grand prize of 3,000 euros and a stand at next year’s AidEx event. The judges were impressed by their approach to overcoming the logistical issues of transporting and installing traditional water tanks, by developing a 1,000 litre water tank that arrives flat-packed in a cardboard box. It weighs just 23kg, and can be assembled by anyone, anywhere in just a few minutes. 400 water tanks can pack full a 40ft shipping container - for those who like math, that’s 400,000 litres of water storage – all in one delivery.

The 2016 Aid Innovation Challenge judging panel included:

  • Travis Henevel, Director, United Nations & International Accounts, Motorola Solutions
  • Constance Agyeman, Development Manager, Nesta
  • Sandy Angus, Chairman, Angus Montgomery Ltd
  • Phillip Hoare, Procurement Manager, International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness
