26 June 2024, Brussels - The FIA Region I hosted its annual summer cocktail on 26 June at the Royal Library of Belgium, gathering over 100 stakeholders from the transport and mobility sector in Brussels.

To mark the occasion, the FIA Region I presented its Mobility Manifesto, calling on newly elected MEPs and stakeholders to keep mobility and transport issues high on the political agenda. The Manifesto serves as a roadmap to ensure that mobility remains accessible and continues to meet the needs of European citizens.

“At FIA Region I, we are dedicated to collaborating with our partners in the mobility sector to ensure that everyone has access to affordable, sustainable, and safe transportation. Together, we can create a mobility ecosystem that empowers consumers,” said FIA Region I President, Jorge F. Delgado.

Mobility enables EU citizens to reach work, run errands, travel, and ultimately contribute to the European economy, where mobility and transport represent 5% of the EU’s GDP. Transport needs to remain affordable at it is the third highest expenditure within EU households after housing and food.

“In this new era, we bring together present and future mobility stakeholders and look forward to collaborating for sustainable and affordable mobility in the future,” said Laurianne Krid, FIA Region I Director General.

The Mobility Manifesto covers four main areas: keeping mobility accessible and affordable for all, ensuring no one is left behind in the sustainable transition, leveraging the benefits of digitalisation, and increasing road safety.

Providing alternatives for decarbonising the existing vehicle fleet, establishing safeguards for a second-hand electric vehicle market through an EV battery health passport, and adopting sector-specific legislation on access to vehicle data are some of the action points listed in the manifesto, all of which will help achieve a robust and comprehensive mobility sector for all.
