  • The 8th edition of the global Prize Ethics & Trust in Finance for a Sustainable Future will be officially launched online on 2 June 2020 2pm CET, with a closing date for submission of essays on 31 May 2021 (register here).
  • ACCA’s chief executive Helen Brand, OBE  will take part in the launching roundtable discussion that will explore the role of ethics and trust in shaping a more sustainable and resilient financial system for the post-pandemic world.

The launching ceremony of the 8th edition of the global Prize Ethics & Trust in Finance for a Sustainable Future brings together eminent professionals and experts, including some of the recent laureates of the Prize, to provide insights on the role of ethics to help shape a more sustainable and resilient financial system for the future.

Such insights are made necessary and urgent by the recurring financial crises over the last decades, the mounting challenge of climate change and the current pandemic which has already triggered considerable financial stress and plunged the world in a major economic and social crisis. The general theme of ethics and trust in finance has a pivotal role to mitigate the negative effect of such crises.

Helen Brand OBE, chief executive of ACCA, and one of the partners of the prize, says: “As global business looks to how it can reconstruct  post the pandemic, it’s clear that care for, and responsibility to, each other and the world we share will be of paramount importance. Thinking deeply about this and re-building in a way that benefits all in society has never been more vital and it makes this  prize even more relevant and resonant.’’

Since 2006, the Ethics and Trust in Finance Prize offers young candidates - under 35 and working in or studying finance -  a unique opportunity to reassess the role of financial institutions and in particular how they can provide a meaningful response to the changing needs of the communities in which they operate. Organised by the Observatoire de la finance, the Prize also encourages candidates to reimagine how financial institutions, together with their stakeholders, can balance the desire for growth, security and stability for the post-pandemic world. This competition, supported by its strategic partners - CFA Institute; Euroclear; ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants); Swift & Swift Institute; and Pictet Group -  invites creative papers setting out analyses or proposals for innovative ways to promote ethics & trust in finance. The Jury allocates the prize money of USD 20,000 among the winners. To register for the Prize, click here

The video of the launch Ceremony will be made available here on the 2nd June 2020 2 pm (CET). The event will include a presentation of the Prize by Josina Kamerling (CFA Institute), Co-President of the Jury, a message from European Commission Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis, and two Roundtables with eminent professionals and experts in the field, including: Helen Brand, OBE (ACCA); Gary Baker (CFA); Andrea Bancone (laureate 2019); Paul Dembinski (Observatoire de la Finance); Bibi Mehtab Rose-Palan (laureate 2017) ; Ross Murdoch (laureate 2015); Babatunde Onabajo (laureate 2017) ; Clare Payne (Tobacco Free Portfolios); Thierry Philipponnat (Finance Watch); Charles Pictet (Pictet Group); Andrea Roncella (laureate 2019) ; Brett Scott (laureate 2017).
