ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) and MSI Global Alliance, one of the world’s leading international associations of independent legal and accounting firms, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on projects aimed at developing the skill-sets of the legal and accountancy professions.

The agreement represents a commitment from both bodies to organise joint events and co-operate across global markets on initiatives that can help attract new accounting & finance talent.

The MoU was signed by Helen Brand OBE (chief executive, ACCA) and Timothy Wilson (chief executive, MSI Global Alliance) at a ceremony held on 05 July at ACCA’s global headquarters in London

Helen Brand OBE, chief executive of ACCA, says, ‘As business continues to develop into new global areas, it is vital that the professional skills of the accountancy and legal profession evolves with it. By partnering with an organisation such as MSI Global Alliance, our members can benefit from the insights and experience of professionals working in multi-disciplinary firms around the world.

‘ACCA’s Global Forum for Business Law, for example, already has a special focus on how legal systems can achieve the right balance between encouraging entrepreneurial initiative and providing necessary protection for stakeholders and the public interest. I hope this partnership will deepen and strengthen the collaboration between our professions on such key areas’

Timothy Wilson, chief executive of MSI Global Alliance, says, ‘The legal and accounting professions share common interests and challenges. For each profession, the impact of technology and digitisation is a significant opportunity and clients expect more added value from both.

‘Our members of multidisciplinary professional services firms are already at the forefront of such challenges around the globe. The opportunity to be able to access ACCA’s global network and research insights will be an invaluable asset to continuing to develop the talent needed to lead business in the 21st century.’
