Joseph Daul re-elected Chairman of the EPP Group

The Group of the European People's Party (EPP) in the European Parliament has re-elected its Chairman Joseph Daul (UMP, France) by a very large majority.

Joseph Daul has been Chairman of the EPP Group since 2007 and will lead the biggest Group in the European Parliament (centre-right) to the next European Elections in 2014.

The EPP Group has welcomed today's proposals by the European Commission to modify the regulations governing the pay and working conditions of European Union staff. The challenges posed by the ongoing financial and economic crisis require a swift and strong response at all levels. Securing a sound EU budget is one of the crucial priorities which demands freezing the administrative expenditure, which is the aim of this proposal.

The European Mortgage Federation’s updated Study shows clear signs of stabilisation in Non-Performing Loans (NPLs) after the short-term rises observed from Q3 2008 to Q3 2009. The European Parliament today approved the European Protection Order (EPO), a new legal instrument that will provide continuous protection of victims of violence when they move from one Member State to another.

"If a person has been granted protection through a protection order in one Member State and wishes to move to another, they can request a European Protection Order so that they can move securely around the EU", explained Teresa Jiménez-Becerril, the EPP Group MEP who drafted the proposal.

EU home affairs ministers today gave the go-ahead to a controversial agreement between the EU and the US on passenger data retention (PNR), with the deal now set to be considered by the European Parliament (1). On the same day, the European Data Protection Supervisor (EPDS) has outlined concerns with the agreement (2).
