Parliament's Economic and Monetary Affairs committee last night approved a report by Olle Schmidt (Folkpartiet, Sweden) on the EU's Annual Tax report. The report focuses on the tax initiatives taken by the Commission during 2011 and on areas where further initiatives are necessary in order to improve the functioning of the Single market and to create a more competitive Europe. It focus on removing cross-border tax obstacles for EU citizens and businesses, as well as preventing tax fraud and increasing tax transparency.

The trialogue agreement on the SEPA¹ End-Date Regulation is a step towards positive regulatory action on bank fees for payments. EuroCommerce urges regulators to take the same path on card fees.

Following the adoption today in the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee (ECON) of the European Parliament of the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) Report, EPP Group Rapporteur Sari Essayah MEP said that the SEPA is extremely important for Europe's Internal Market: "SEPA provides the basis for other development of Europe's Internal Market."
