Brussels, 20th April 2012. European energy ministers gathering today in Denmark for an informal meeting supported renewables, energy efficiency and infrastructure as the core elements of Europe’s future energy system as put forward by the European Commission in its Energy Roadmap 2050.

European Federalists despise renationalisation of border control

On the occasion of a joint europewide meeting of the Young European Federalists and the Union of European Federalists in Leuven starting today the Schengen initiative of France and Germay was taken up with lack of sympathy.

JEF President Pauline Gessant and UEF President Andrew Duff say:

„Migration within and from outside the Union is not an isolated national issue - it affects all European Citizens and thus a joint management should be ensured within the framework of common institutions and mechanisms.“

Treaty to give new impetus to ICT sector development - European telcos propose constructive input to global ICT treaty

Geneva, 20 April 2012 European operators meeting at a joint ITU and ETNO event have agreed that upcoming revisions to the treaty that governs international telecommunications should act as a positive catalyst for the future development of ICT, to benefit all countries.

Left MEPs back Argentina's energy move

Speaking ahead of a European Parliament vote on "legal certainty for investments outside the EU", GUE/NGL President Gabi Zimmer called for "respect for the decision of the Government of Argentina to renationalise part of REPSOL-YPF".

"People must be able to exercise their fundamental right to energy. The use of scarce resources must be relocated to serve the peoples' needs in order to fight against poverty and for respect for the environment."

Greater gender equality better for the environment

Reminding the house that climate change hits women particularly hard as they are the first victims of natural disasters and conflicts over resources, GUE/NGL MEP Kartika Liotard said "ironically, they belong to a category of people who are least responsible for it."

Employment Policies are essential to supporting growth
