Transport Committee fails to give flawed proposal on ground handling market the boot

By slim majority MEPs in the Parliament's Transport Committee today adopted the Commission's 'better airport package' proposal that seeks to increase the number of ground handling companies at airports.

GUE/NGL MEP Sabine Wills commented: "Several competing firms providing services will do nothing to enhance safety conditions. On the contrary wages and conditions only worsen."

The energy and industry committee today adopted a report setting out its position on renewable energy policy up to and beyond 2020. The report adopted by the committee was significantly improved from original drafts, notably underlining the importance of renewable energy and the need to preserve successful national support schemes, but the Greens voted against in the final vote due to the failure to clearly commit to an ambitious binding EU 2030 target for renewable energy. After the vote, Green energy spokesperson Claude Turmes MEP said:

Personal data protection: EP Legal Affairs Committee adopts text that reflects citizens' expectation in the 21st century. Marielle Gallo MEP

"As a result of a constructive dialogue between the Centre-Right and the Greens and some Socialists, the EP's Legal Affairs Committee has adopted the Opinion regarding personal data protection with a comfortable majority. Today's vote leaves no room for ambiguity: we are in favour of high protection levels for citizens' privacy", said Rapporteur Marielle Gallo.

Proposed international auditing standard will boost the quality of corporate reporting

ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) has said that proposals to revise International Standard on Auditing (ISA) 720 could make audit more beneficial and had the potential to better meet investor demands.

ACCA welcomed the proposals in its response to proposed ISA 720 (Revised), The Auditor’s Responsibilities Relating to Other Information in Documents Containing or Accompanying Audited Financial Statements and the Auditor’s Report Thereon.

Drive to reduce transparent reporting by SMEs should not be at expense of essential stakeholder safeguards, says ACCA

Rules on accounting and audit are no longer seen universally as a necessary measure for protecting the interests of shareholders and creditors in small limited companies, but still amount to an important element of the wider framework of stakeholder safeguards.

Private sector should be protecting the natural environment, say accountants in ACCA natural capital survey
