Data Protection: EPP Group calls for simplified rules for SMEs

New negotiation round today: EPP Group's SME Circle warns against "unmanageable red tape" through new data protection rules

"Yes to strong data protection, but simplified rules for small and medium-sized enterprises", say Axel Voss MEP and Michał Boni MEP. Voss is the EPP Group's negotiator for the ongoing harmonisation of EU data protection rules. Boni is a member of the EPP Group's SME Circle, a working group fighting against bureaucracy, which published a paper this week with ideas on how to avoid red tape when protecting personal data.

Food speculation must be contained

The current proposals by the European Securities and Market's Authority (ESMA) on the position limits under the Markets for Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID II) are not ambitious enough. "We are running the risk of not meeting the aims of MiFID II and of not containing speculation on foodstuffs properly", said Markus Ferber MEP who is the European Parliament Rapporteur on MiFID II.

Criteo chooses Huawei servers to build the biggest private Big Data platform in Europe

[Paris, France, 25 September 2015] Huawei has been chosen by Criteo to supply 700 servers for its new Hadoop Cluster datacenter based in Pantin (Seine St Denis). Following a strict comparative study, Huawei won the tender to provide its "FusionServer RH2288H V3" model, which consists of a large number of high-capacity disks. The RH2288H V3 servers allow better storage density and reduce energy consumption by 10% thanks to innovations in terms of design and heat dissipation.
 

European banks remain strongly opposed to financial transactions tax

Collectively agreed nominal pay outcomes in 2014 break with the past

(Dublin, Ireland): Collectively agreed nominal pay is the same or lower in almost all of the countries surveyed in 2014 compared to 2013, according to new research from Eurofound. However, lower inflation during the same period resulted in increases in real collectively agreed pay, confirming the return of growth in real terms which had begun in 2013. Eurofound’s report Developments in collectively agreed pay 2014 provides insights into collective wage bargaining outcomes in Europe.
