Spring Tripartite Social Summit: “Public Services are the centre of the European Social Model”

Hans-Joachim Reck, President of CEEP, presented this key message at the Tripartite Social Summit today in Brussels. He quoted the Joint Declaration of the Public Services Employers Forum in which CEEP and several sectoral employers’ organisations point out that the best use of available resources is a key principle in operating public services. At the same time he insisted that without long term investments and respect of the public services obligations, the mission of public services cannot be fulfilled. “These are essential pre-conditions for
public services to create growth and employment”.
“We know that decisive action can turn Europe from stabilisation to boosting growth and jobs”, went on Mr Reck, “and in CEEP we believe that this can only be achieved by targeting an inclusive growth, aimed at fostering the European Social Model”.
Public services are essential to foster that model. Europe should support public employers in pursuing the creation of jobs, especially for young people, by putting in place the necessary framework conditions in all sectors of the Internal Market, be it State Aid regulations, Concessions, or Public Procurement. “We believe that the current proposals on these subjects will not facilitate the creation of growth and employment in public services and that is why we are committed to work on a positive solution also in those fields”.
