EuroACE says Energy Efficiency Directive in need of deep renovation

EuroACE, the European association representing companies in the energy efficiency in buildings sector, cautiously welcomes the Commission’s publication of the Energy Efficiency Directive. However, EuroACE is concerned about the lack of long term strategic vision in the proposals.
EuroACE spokesperson Julie Todisco said ‘EuroACE does not believe that this is a basis to reach the 20% energy saving target by 2020 and does not form a foundation to address the complete renovation of Europe’s building stock by 2050’.
The proposed Directive makes a number of suggestions which are to be welcomed such as the promotion of energy services, the energy saving obligation, new rules on public procurement, and the 3% renovation target for public sector buildings. Yet the Directive does not present a long term vision for the renovation of the entire existing building stock, consider the financing tools needed to promote energy efficiency investments, and requirements for member state action to develop detailed roadmaps for their buildings.
Ms Todisco continued: ‘EuroACE will be working with Parliamentarians and the member states to ensure that this Directive is not a missed opportunity for Europe to make a deep impact on our energy and climate future’.
