The International Association of Public Transport (UITP) has announced the finalists of the first International PTx2 Awards. The finalists have been selected from amongst the 155 applicants from 43 countries from all continents that have taken up the challenge of doubling the public transport market share worldwide by 2025. The Awards Ceremony will take place during the 59th UITP World Congress & Exhibition, hosted by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) from 10 to 14 April 2011 in Dubai.

The PTx2 Awards have been launched by UITP to share initiatives that support the ambitious objective of doubling the public transport market share worldwide by 2025 – the PTx2 strategy - and reward excellence.

“The tremendous response - 155 submissions received from 43 countries from all continents - shows the breadth and depth of projects springing to life in cities around the world. Together they form an inspiring and exciting patchwork illustrating the movement that is already taking place in our urban centres. The PTx2 challenge is being taken up by every type of mobility stakeholder, be they authorities, operators or the supply industry,” said UITP Secretary General Hans Rat.

From India to Brazil and Ecuador to Central and Eastern Europe, broad-reaching master plans, projects and awareness-raising programmes will be recognised and rewarded during the workshops covering each region of the world at the Congress, culminating in the handing over of the First International UITP PTx2 Awards at the Closing Ceremony on 14 April.
