"In the light of the announcement made by the European Commission yesterday, the European Parliament has decided to put off its vote on its Resolution on the Hungarian media law. This was inevitable since this issue has now been overtaken by events", said Simon Busuttil MEP, EPP Group Coordinator in the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) Committee of the European Parliament.

"It is now clear for all that the debate on the Hungarian media law held yesterday in the plenary and the attempt to adopt a Resolution were blatant cases of political instrumentalisation by the Liberal, Socialist, Green and Communist Groups in the European Parliament. After the due completion of the European Commission's legal analysis, the Hungarian Government, as promised, is now acting in line with its previous undertakings to amend the law. So there was absolutely no point in attacking a government that cooperated fully in respecting EU law. This week's events once again prove that the political attacks were rash and unjustified", declared Simon Busuttil MEP.
