Largest international industry event to bring together ICT industry chiefs
as cable sector surpasses 100 Million RGU mark in Europe
(Brussels, 27 January) Europe’s cable industry announces today a leap forward with 102 million separate Revenue Generating Units (RGUs) deployed among European consumers and businesses, according to Screen Digest figures* pre-released today prior to Cable Congress 2011.
The rapid growth in RGUs demonstrates that Europe’s households are continuing to opt for the wide range of high quality services offered by cable companies through their fibre-powered networks. “Europe’s cable industry is constantly investing to create the best value and user experience for its customers,” said Manuel Kohnstamm, President of Cable Europe. “Passing the 100-million RGU mark reflects the growing appetite of our customers for digital interactive television and
high speed broadband. Throughout Europe, cable is fast becoming the preferred supplier of advanced communications services. ”
The rapid growth in RGUs ― an industry term for distinct TV, internet or telephony service to which a customer subscribes ― is just one of among many latest key industry trends and developments to be announced when Europe’s Cable industry gathers in Lucerne, Switzerland, on February 15-17 for Cable Congress 2011. Cable Congress brings together the world’s leading network operators, service providers, content suppliers, equipment manufacturers, vendors, software & services providers, press, analysts, industry regulators, investors and other stakeholders.
Top level speakers this year include cable chiefs and industry leaders:
• Mike Fries, President & CEO of Liberty Global
• Adrian von Hammerstein, CEO, Kabel Deutschland
• Bill Roedy, Chairman and Chief Executive, MTV Networks International
• Patrick Walker, Director of Partnerships at Google/YouTube
“Europe’s cable industry continues to lead the way with both speed and innovation. This continued growth demonstrates that European consumers are looking to cable to provide not only their TV needs, but especially our fibre-powered broadband. With the pace of investments that drive our innovation, we’re confident that this trend will continue well past 2011,” said Caroline Van Weede, Managing Director of Cable Europe.
