EurActiv ‘Special Report’ on food and responsible marketing

Date

29 Nov 2010

Sections

Agriculture & Food
Health & Consumers

EurActiv, the leading online media on European Union policies, will be running special coverage, from 29 November to 3 December, on food and responsible marketing. In the special report, EurActiv journalists will cover issues of current interest such as the existing EU legislative framework on food advertising and marketing.

Advertising and marketing of food and drink influences people’s dietary choices, but there are no exact figures measuring this influence. In the EU, marketing of food and drink is currently based on a self-regulatory approach, whereby companies voluntarily agree to follow certain codes of conduct and refrain from promoting certain foods, in particular unhealthy products, to children. The results of this approach will be analysed by the European Commission in December.

News and interviews with top political stakeholders – MEPs, consumer organisations and industry actors – will provide a better understanding of the debate surrounding legislation vs. industry self-regulation, as well as exploring topical issues including: child obesity; consumer education and empowerment; health and nutrition claims; and food information.
You can follow the Special Report stories here.

The Special Report is supported by Coca-Cola.
