Agency work industry gives picture of where vacancies are and what skills are needed most
Brussels, 23 November 2010; Eurociett, which represents the agency work industry in Europe, has provided data on the number of temporary vacancies in Europe for the Commission’s first European Vacancy Monitor (EVM), launched today. The EVM will inform policy makers at European, national, regional and sectoral level as to where vacancies lie and what occupations and skill sets are most needed.
Having been requested to provide its expertise by the European Commission, Eurociett aided the EVM to build an accurate picture of the job landscape and identify areas of opportunity. The monitor shows a strong increase in demand for temporary agency work during the first half of 2010 - underlining the industry's role as a leading business indicator and its ability to effectively transition jobseekers into the workplace. Employment in the EU has stopped shrinking and growth in demand is likely to come from sectors including marketed services, business, distribution and transport, healthcare and education. Eurociett will continue to inform the Commission of developments in the agency work market to ensure the EVM continues to be a relevant tool for policy makers as the economic recovery continues.
"With some 23 million jobseekers and 1.5 million job vacancies now available in the EU there there is a real need to better match supply with demand. Thanks to its deep knowledge of the labour market the agency work industry is well placed to do this,” said Denis Pennel, managing director of Eurociett. By staying close to the workplace the agency work industry understands what sectors and employers need and is able to match supply with demand and train workers to fill the vacancies available. The industry is working increasingly closely with public employment services across Europe to maximise synergies and increase labour market participation.
