The FIA European Bureau is announcing the successful completion of the iCars Network project designed to contributed to the deployment of transport ICT technologies (or ITS – “Intelligent Transport Systems").

For a period of two years, 16 European organizations, lead by  the  FIA European Bureau, gathered to exchange knowledge and experience on  deployment of  transport ICT technologies and share them among a wide variety of stakeholders.

Four specific topics have been in-depth analysed within the iCars Network thematic groups, which led to the following outcome:

- a Roadmap for the pre-commercial procurement of ITS

- Recommendations on information and awareness activities

- a Catalogue of impact assessment methods for IVS and

- a Roadmap on ICT for energy efficiency.

The iCARS Thematic Network Project – ICT for Energy-Efficiency in Transport has received the Outstanding Paper Award for its remarkable scientific/technical research, during the 17th ITS World Congress held in Busan (Korea) on 25-29 October 2010.

Wil Botman, director general of the FIA European Bureau said: "deployment is extremely important to reap the benefits of all new applications designed to improve the safety and sustainability of road transport. The four reports of the Network give excellent guidance in this area".

The road maps and the recommendations are available on the project website: www.icarsnetwork.eu
