The President of the European People’s Party (EPP) and former Prime Minister of Belgium Wilfried Martens presented today his book “Europe: I Struggle, I Overcome” in a public event organized by the Centre for European Studies (CES), the official think-tank of the EPP.
At the event, attended by nearly 300 distinguished guests - including the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Boyko Borisov and members of his government, European Commissioners, parliamentarians, Ambassadors, scholars, etc. – keynote speeches were given by the President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso, the Prime Minister of Belgium Herman van Rompuy, the President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek and the Secretary General of the EPP Antonio Lopez-Isturiz.
At the event, President Buzek also announced the decision of the leaders of the political Groups in the European Parliament to have the vote for the election of the President of the European Commission on the 16th of September. Jose Manuel Barroso, who is the official candidate of all 27 heads of state and government of the EU, was endorsed by the EPP during the campaign of the European elections earlier this year.
