Markus Borchert brings decades of senior executive experience to the leading global accountancy body
Markus Borchert, a senior international executive, has been appointed to the ACCA’s Council Board for a period of three years.
Presently, Markus serves as Chair of Nokia China and on the boards of u-blox and Barilla. He is also a member of the executive committee (board) of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China. Earlier in his career, he served as board chair or vice chair of several Sino-European joint ventures and as board president of DIGITALEUROPE, Europe’s largest industry association in the digital sector.
ACCA’s leadership is formed of Council and the Executive Board, that work together to develop ACCA’s ambitious strategic vision. Markus takes on the role of a non-Council appointee and on the Council Board will work alongside ACCA’s president, deputy and vice president, chief executive, three council members and another non-Council appointee.
Markus said: ‘I was inspired by ACCA’s purpose and vision, which resonate deeply with my own values. I am eager to help shape the organisation’s future through my role on ACCA’s Council Board, actively engaging in discussions that drive strategy, enhance performance, and define the organisation’s long-term direction.’
The Council Board meets six times a year and has responsibility for the holistic oversight of the implementation of ACCA’s strategy and supports agile decision making.
Melanie Proffitt, ACCA president, said: ‘We’re looking forward to working with Markus and benefiting from his counsel and his experience of leadership in so many sectors and across many geographies.’
