European Forum: Covid, Climate Crisis and safeguarding workers

Sections

InfoSociety

The European Forum is a unique space where a diverse range of political and social organisations come together to build a shared response to the problems of the pandemic, racism, the climate emergency, growing unemployment and poverty, gender inequality, and militarism.

The 5th edition of the European Forum is taking place on the 26th and 27th of November in Brussels.

Heinz Bierbaum, President of the Party of the European Left, which co-organises the event, said: “This is the second year that we are faced with the healthcare crisis caused by the coronavirus. The most vulnerable are affected disproportionately. It is with dismay that we observe that Europe is still stuck in a paradigm that isn't geared to safeguard workers from this economic upheaval. The European Forum has long prioritised plural and participatory conversation across political parties, labor unions, and social movements and will continue doing so during its 5th edition.

The pandemic-caused catastrophe is a sad tragedy, yet some of its consequences might have been and still may be averted. We can't speak about constructing a fairer Europe as long as workers don't set the agenda. True economic democracy is required to guarantee that workers are not forced to bear the cost for the pandemic.

This European Forum provides a chance for discussion, exploration of next steps, and proposal of common results. Our goal is simple, but critical: to give fairer and greener solutions to Europe's challenges. We are looking forward to uniting again and setting the progressive agenda”.

The European Forum is now an essential space for exchanging ideas promoting a new future for Europe. It will include seminars, debates, and discussions with the participation of parliamentarians, ministers, academics, trade unionists and political and social activists. Assemblies for women, trade unionists, cultural networks and young people will represent groups whose contribution to a better future for Europe is often overlooked.
