Unicorns, MEP’s and activists gather outside European Summit
Rue de la Loi between Rond-Point Schuman and Cinquantenaire Park
12:30-14:00 on 20 June 2019
While European leaders discuss the future of Europe, Tory leadership contenders chase unicorns and vye with each other to champion ever wilder Brexits. Our ProEuropa gathering, through speeches and spectacle will argue that:
- Pursuing Brexit has no democratic legitimacy now
- The British people want the EU to keep the door open to our continued membership
- There is a passionate pro European movement alive in the UK to be respected
- More Brits signed the Revoke Article 50 petition (6 million) than voted for the Brexit party (5.2 million)
- 6.8 million voted for pro European parties in the EP elections.
- The UK has witnessed its largest ever political demonstrations as citizens demand to stay in the EU.
Brexit as promised cannot be delivered. The democratic solution is to give the people the final say, choosing between leaving (when the terms are clear) versus staying in the EU. The gathering will be addressed between 12.45 and 14.00 by campaigners and politicians including MEPs Molly Scott Cato (Green) and Richard Corbett (Labour). A message will be transmitted from a parallel gathering of activists outside Westminster. Molly Scott Cato notes that disinformation and elections is on the Council’s agenda and says:
“Brexit is a crime scene where we have seen breaches of spending rules and data-protection laws, manipulation of voters through social media and wrongful exclusion of EU citizens from voting, in both the EU referendum and the recent European elections”.
