Press release

Paris, 14 January 2014 - Women's Forum Brussels will bring together women members of the European Parliament and top opinion-shapers from corporations and civil society in a special half-day meeting to take place January 28 at the European Parliament. Debates will include European
Parliament Vice-President Isabelle Durant, Director General of the International Development Law Organization Irene Khan, corporate leaders and top women politicians from 5 European countries. The conference, which will gather some 150 participants, will focus on generating more input from
women on key topics including drivers for growth, fixing the leaky leadership pipeline and boosting the representativity and public image of European politicians.

"If our societies are to evolve towards greater sustainability, more fairness, stronger growth and increased social progress, women must be able to take their rightful place," explained Jacqueline Franjou, CEO of the Women's Forum for the Economy and Society. "Currently, it's obvious that there's a deficit of women representatives in European politics. At the same time — and this may not be a coincidence — there is an enormous decline in public trust. We need women's voices to be heard and women's talents to be deployed, so that we can boost confidence in Europe, and construct a vision of the future based on the values of sustainability and equal opportunity."

Speakers at Women's Forum Brussels will include high-level women politicians from Bulgaria, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, and key corporate leaders, academics, and representatives of the media and civil society. The meeting results from years of involvement in the work of the Women's Forum for the Economy and Society by a number of top women in the European Commission and European Parliament.
