Parliament adopts Roadmap on Single European Transport Area

EuroCommerce welcomes the European Parliament’s adoption of the ‘Roadmap to a Single European Transport Area - Towards a competitive and resource efficient transport system’ perceived as an additional step towards a fully integrated transport system in the EU. Removing all barriers between the different modes of transport, reducing red-tape and completing a truly European internal market for transport is essential to the sector.

New Euro Treaty negotiations: Elmar Brok MEP to represent the European Parliament

EPP Group Member Elmar Brok MEP has been nominated as representative of the European Parliament in the negotiations for the new Euro Treaty agreed upon by 26 EU Heads of State and Government last week. He will work towards preserving the Community method, combining stability and growth.

Mr Brok said: "This is not only about the Euro, but about the future of our citizens in a world which is dramatically changing."

The EU 2050 Energy Roadmap - More alignment with Energy Efficiency potential needed

The European Commission adopted its 2050 Energy Roadmap today (15th December 2011) setting out its views about Europe’s energy future. The Roadmap is based on modelling work that creates scenarios of possible future energy mixes on the energy supply side. However, whilst Commissioner Oettinger has publicly stated that “The first tool of the EU energy strategy is and should remain energy efficiency”, the Roadmap does not take sufficient account of the potential impact of energy efficiency.

The European Parliament today voted to revise EU rules governing access to public documents in the EU. The Greens welcomed the vote of the EP to push for more documents to be made available to the public, and called on the Council not to block this. 2050 Energy Roadmap underplays efficiency

The European Commission's 2050 Energy Roadmap, due to be published today, shows that renewables are a vital part of a successful and affordable decarbonisation process. But it sends out a weak message on energy efficiency according to the Liberal and Democrat group (ALDE) in the European Parliament.
