Food operators: Negative vote from ENVI Committee MEPs on revised Nutrition Claims list is bad for consumers and for business

(Brussels 31 January 2012) FoodDrinkEurope strongly regrets the negative outcome of the vote today in the European Parliament’s Environment, Public Health and Food Safety Committee for the revised nutrition claims list recently adopted by the Council.

Brussels, 31 January 2012: Following the inclusion of the airline industry into the EU’s Emissions Trading Scheme as of 1 January 2012, ACI EUROPE today released an update on its flagship climate change initiative, Airport Carbon Accreditation, detailing the progress made by airports in lowering their own CO2 emissions.

Parliament moves to boost carbon price

The European Parliament has today sent a strong signal that the price of carbon emissions must be raised by fixing the Emissions Trading System (ETS) - one of the EU's key laws on climate change.

The Parliament's Environment Committee voted in favour of withholding carbon allowances in the ETS - a move that would increase the carbon price if it was adopted.

The economic crisis has reduced industrial production and therefore emissions, flooding the carbon market with free emission allowances and causing the price to collapse.

Euro crisis summit: Unnecessary 'compact' signed off; real steps to resolving Euro crisis still missing

EU leaders last night signed off on the so-called 'fiscal compact', the intergovernmental agreement that was proposed by the December EU summit. The Greens have hit out at the pact as unnecessary, delivering little new and failing to deliver the necessary crisis response.
