ENVI’s report on the targeted WFD revision fails to respect the EC mandate

Brussels, 14 February 2024 – In an effort to stem the ever-growing waste generation from textiles and food in the EU, in July 2023 the European Commission proposed a targeted revision of the Waste Framework Directive (WFD). Today, the European Parliament ENVI Committee adopted its report along with certain amendments which are out-of-scope of the proposed revision.

    Today, the European Parliament’s committee on the internal market and consumer protection voted the EU Toy Safety Regulation.

    The future regulation will lay down the safety requirements that toys placed on the EU market must meet, whether they are manufactured in or outside the EU. Among the main priorities, this legislation includes a ban on the use of chemical substances that have proven be toxic for children.

    Brussels, 09 February 2024 – The initiation of a new steel safeguard investigation announced today by the European Commission is a pivotal step that could ensure the continuation of current measures beyond June 2024. This welcome move comes in response to worsening challenges in the global steel market, where carbon-intensive steel imports originating from excess capacity are inundating the EU market, posing a risk to the sustainability of the European steel industry, says the European Steel Association.
