FoodDrinkEurope calls for agreement at second reading on outstanding technical issues, on foods for particular nutritional purposes (PARNUTS)

(Brussels, 18 June 2012) FoodDrinkEurope takes note of last week’s first reading vote of the European Parliament on the draft Regulation on food intended for infants and young children and food for special medical purposes.

The European food and drink industry now looks to the EU institutions to find agreement at second reading on outstanding (technical) issues, such as statements related to the absence or limited presence of gluten in foods.

Boeing Named Associate Partner to SELEX Sistemi Integrati in Single European Sky ATM Research Development Phase

ROME, June 15, 2012 -- Boeing [NYSE: BA] and SELEX Sistemi Integrati, S.p.A - a Finmeccanica company- have entered into a collaboration agreement in support of the Single European Sky ATM Research (SESAR) program's development phase -- the European air traffic modernization program.

Boeing will cooperate with SELEX Sistemi Integrati with research in flight data modeling and data link communications for all phases of flight, and system-wide information management (SWIM) - an internet-like system that enables information-sharing across all stakeholders.

Going for Green means certified new and existing buildings, says RICS

The market for certification of existing buildings is still under development in Europe, but some pioneering examples, could maybe set the example and buck the trend, says RICS in its publication Going for Green: Sustainable Building Certification Statistics Europe, launched today at Consense 2012 in Stuttgart (19 June 2012).

Progress on building renovation is welcome but too limited: Concrete measures still have to be put in place.

Following several months of intense negotiations, Member States and the European Parliament have reached agreement on the Energy Efficiency Directive. Whilst the efforts of the Parliament’s negotiators and the Danish Presidency to raise the directive’s ambition level must be lauded, the overall result remains disappointing. In particular the provisions regarding buildings are too weak to kick-start wide-spread and well planned refurbishment activities.

The final round of negotiations around the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) have yielded a considerably weakened piece of legislation. The crucial role that energy efficiency in buildings represents in terms of job creation, reducing Europe’s crippling dependence on foreign oil imports and achieving the EU’s 2020 climate protection goals has  been acknowledged, however,  through the inclusion of national long-term strategies.
