First SME Day for commerce - EuroCommerce calls for “six SME essentials” for growth

Ahead of the European SME week, EuroCommerce gathered entrepreneurs from all over Europe and from all walks of commerce (retail, wholesale, and international trade) to exchange views among themselves and with the European Commission and Parliament on the major challenges they face in their daily life. On this first SME Day for commerce, EuroCommerce calls on the Commission and the Parliament to have the ‘think small first’ principle more enshrined in EU law-making and to make the regulatory environment more SME-friendly.

UNILEVER DRIVES SUSTAINABLE GROWTH WITH NEW EUROPEAN LOGISTICS PROJECT

Unilever announced yesterday a new project part-funded by the EU which will reduce the distance its trucks drive on Europe's roads by around 200 million kilometres annually by the end of 2014, compared to 2010 levels.

The company's new transport management scheme will help to significantly reduce the
impact that Unilever's supply chain has on the environment and Europe's roads network.

‘European citizens’ initiatives 6 months on: A first assessment’

Over one hundred thirty people gathered on Friday, 5 October in Vienna to assess issues surrounding the implementation of European Citizens Initiatives (ECI) which started on 1 of April 2012.

The conference, organised by the Austrian institute for European Law and Politics, is part of the ECAS-led project ‘ECI link’ and is a follow-up of similar events in Barcelona and Paris.

European retail steps up the fight against waste in drive to green the economy

Despite the economic woes, the European retail industry remains committed to achieving more sustainable production and consumption. Grocery stores are going to assist customers in cutting back on food waste. Non-food retailers will focus on making the waste stream of textiles and electronics more sustainable.
