IRU upgrades online services to support operators’ daily work

Geneva – The IRU, in order to facilitate daily road transport operations and ensure the industry’s sustainable development, recently upgraded two of its global online services: TRANSPark, an application that helps locate and promote secure parking areas, and the IRU Legal Assistance Network, a global network of over 100 specialised legal professionals providing legal counsel and assistance on demand.

 

IRU partners with UNECE on secure parking areas

Geneva – The IRU today partnered with the UNECE Inland Transport Security Discussion Forum to effectively tackle the great demand for secure parking areas along the road transport network, as well as the necessity to adapt them to modern road transport logistics needs, such as easy location, capacity, safety, cargo security and availability of adequate rest facilities for drivers.

Europe’s banks express renewed concern as Commission adopts FTT proposal

The European Banking Federation (EBF) reiterates its concerns over the proposal for a Financial Transaction Tax (FTT), adopted by the European Commission today, 14 February. The controversial tax would be implemented by 11 Member States under enhanced cooperation and is expected to claw back a yearly revenue of EUR 30-35 billion from the financial sector.

American and European Standards Organisations agree to collaborate on aligning standards to facilitate trade between EU and USA

At their meeting in Dublin this week, the European Standards Organisations (CEN, CENELEC and ETSI) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) agreed that they will maintain and intensify their collaboration with a view to aligning their standards, which is necessary in order to facilitate trade in both goods and services between Europe and the USA. This collaboration is set to become increasingly important as the European Union and United States are about to begin negotiations on a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership.

The new Financial Transaction Tax (FTT) proposals still do not lift all the existing concerns over an EU-only tax, says ACCA

Financial transaction tax Member states must swiftly adopt sound proposal and agree coherent plans for just use of revenues

The European Commission will today present legislative proposals on introducing a financial transaction tax (FTT) for an initial group of 11 EU member states (1). The Greens welcomed the basic architecture of the proposals and called on the member states to implement the FTT quickly and to ensure the revenues are used to just ends and with a trans-national EU perspective. Commenting on the proposals, Green finance spokesperson Emilie Turunen (MEP, Denmark) said:
