We express our profound concern about the decision of the European Parliament’s Agriculture Committee to prolong sugar and isoglucose production quotas until 2020 as part of the CAP reform.

The current EU law governing the sugar market states that sugar production quotas will expire in 2015. This should not change. Quota expiry is an integral part of the reform of the EU sugar regime agreed by the EU institutions and legally enacted in 2006.

"Decisions which have far-reaching effects on energy prices in the European Union must be approved by the whole Parliament. A narrow committee vote is, in this case, not a sufficient mandate to start negotiations with the co-legislator", stressed Richard Seeber MEP and Eija-Riitta Korhola MEP. Parliament's Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) has agreed to first seek a plenary vote on the planned changes to the European CO2 Emissions Trading Scheme.
