Immunisation one key intervention to end two million preventable child deaths each year

Geneva (12 April) – Pneumonia and diarrhoea together account for nearly one-third of all under-five child deaths in developing countries. Evidence shows that children are dying from these preventable diseases because effective interventions are not reaching them or not provided equitably across all communities.

YOUTH MOBILITY – THE KEY TO DEMOCRTIC REFORMS IN THE EASTERN PARTNERSHIP COUNTRIES

On 14th May in the European Parliament, Paweł Zalewski MEP in the cooperation with the AEGEE Eastern Partnership Project will host a joint conference on "Youth mobility - the Key to Democratic Reforms in the Eastern Partnership Countries".  The event aims at presenting the current achievements of the visa facilitation process and their potential impact on democratic reforms as well as generating a debate on the challenges in the youth mobility and visa liberalisation before the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius in November.

Restarting the SME credit market in Europe: what role for securitisation and the capital markets?

In the aftermath of the crisis, the 23 million EU SMEs – amounting to 99 % of all enterprises - remain more than ever the backbone of the EU economy. It is of utmost importance that they have the financial capacity to restore economic growth. Yet the European real economy is mainly financed by credit – up to 80 %, unlike that of the United States. This figure highlights the crucial balancing act for European policymakers – the need to create a broader financing base in the long run, but also support alternative ways of boosting credit in the medium term.

The European Commission’s DG Enterprise launched its “new industrial revolution”[1]   in October 2012 to steer Europe’s economy back to a growth path. EU Trade Defence Modernisation: Importers’ perspective key for balanced results

The European Commission has today published its proposals for modernised Trade Defence Instruments. After the failure of a similar, more controversial exercise in 2007, there is now an opportunity to reconcile importers’ and producers’ interests in a mutually acceptable way.
“Intended to help domestic manufacturers, antidumping duties cause considerable damage to EU importers. To improve the system, it is essential to consider traders’ needs properly”, said Ralph Kamphöner, EuroCommerce Director International Trade & Wholesale.
