The EPP Group today welcomed the Outcome Document of the Special Event on Millennium Development Goals adopted on 25 September by the UN General Assembly. The agreement among UN members was reached with the strong participation of the EU. The Outcome Document was agreed on after lengthy negotiations which will chart the way forward towards the post-2015 development agenda.

FCS RF extends illegal and unfounded TIR restrictions to Ural Customs region

Further to the information dated 13 September, the IRU was informed that the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation (FCS RF) has extended the scope of its illegal restriction on TIR guarantees to the Ural Customs region, defying the UN’s conclusion that this action is in breach of the TIR Convention and hence international law.

It is not acceptable to use the judiciary to apply selected justice directed at representatives of the opposition. The Board of Directors of the European Federation of the Parquet Industry met on 18 September 2013 and discussed amongst others both the parquet situation and recent economic indicators on the European market.

There was some positive news: the latest Economic Sentiment Indicator of the EC continued its upward trend, increasing sharply both in the euro area and in the EU. The indicator rose for the fourth successive month in both regions, marking a two-year high in the EU.

It comes as no surprise that Chancellor Angela Merkel and her Christian Democratic CDU (Christlich Demokratische Union) are the winners of the German federal elections. However, the margin of her victory was unexpected, with the CDU in the preliminary official results attaining 311 seats, only 5 seats short of a majority in parliament. A performance described as a “show of force” by Die Zeit and as a “triumph” by Der Spiegel.

At this year’s General Assembly, the United Nations must call for sustainable and equitable world economies as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) expire in 2015. The scandal of hunger must come to an end, with food security at all times.
