Confidence up: will expectations become reality?

Orgalime is forecasting that the engineering industry’s turnover in the European Union should reach in nominal terms some 1,840€ billion in 2013, slightly down on 2012.

The year started off rather poorly, with production remaining unchanged from the fourth quarter of 2012, which was already quite disappointing. However, since late in the third quarter of the year, there are signs of the beginning of a turnaround and we therefore expect the 2013 production of the European engineering industry to contract by around 1,7% on average in real terms.

Mikhail Khodorkovsky: Russian visionary marks ten years in prison. Elmar Brok MEP and Laima Andrikiene MEP

A decade after his arrest and imprisonment on politically-motivated charges, Russia needs Mikhail Khodorkovsky's vision more than ever, according to EPP Group Members Elmar Brok MEP, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament, and Laima Andrikiene MEP.

"Russia can only create a prosperous, safe and stable society with opportunity for all if it respects the rule of law. Mikhail Khodorkovsky has become a stark reminder for a system that threatens those who speak out, and a symbol for a Russia that blocks its own future", said Brok.

Fundamental rights far from an obsolete notion, Zimmer tells right-wing in an appeal for tolerance

GUE/NGL President Gabi Zimmer asked Conservative leader Martin Callanan following his attack on 'outdated' EU social funding in a European Parliament debate on tomorrow's EU Summit. "For decades people having been fighting for fundamental rights and you say they need to back off? How far must we turn back the clock on fundamental rights before you have what you want?"
