Surviving beyond treatment: Cancer patients Make Sense of life after treatment of head and neck cancers

On the advent of the 2017 Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week, the European Cancer Patient Coalition invited patients and policy makers to gather at the European Parliament to promote better quality of life for cancer patients and survivors as part of the Make Sense Campaign. The event was hosted by MEP Lieve Wierinck (ALDE, Belgium). This year’s awareness week theme is ‘Supporting Survivorship’.

PES: Youth Guarantee funding extension vital to fight unemployment

The Party of European Socialists welcomes the European Parliament's vote yesterday to provide an extension of funding for the hugely successful Youth Guarantee.

Led by the Socialists & Democrats group, MEPs agreed to provide a temporary boost of 500 million euro to the scheme, allowing it to continue in 2017 after the initial funding ran out.

The European Parliament today backed an S&D-led report on a New Skills Agenda for Europe, which stresses the need to upgrade European education and training systems to help Europeans find jobs and improve their life chances in a rapidly changing economic and social context.

European Union to be leader in transparency as MEPs vote for better lobby control

Despite resistance from the conservatives, the European Parliament today adopted a number of measures to enhance the transparency of the European institutions and to stop secretive lobbying practices.

S&Ds call on member states to respect Parliament’s progressive trade priorities for Chile

The European Parliament today adopted an S&D report on modernising the trade pillar of the EU-Chile association agreement concluded in 2002. The Socialists and Democrats managed to include all their priorities for a progressive trade policy in the report adopted today. The report is particularly strong on the gender dimension of trade, transparency and making sure the benefits of trade are widely shared. With this report the Parliament outlines its position before the Council adopts its negotiation mandate.

“Access to products and services must be open to all” say S&D Euro MPs

Today, the Socialists and Democrats secured a majority on an ambitious proposal aiming at improving access to a wide range of products and services for people with disabilities, the Accessibility Act. Thanks to the Socialists and Democrats, the rules will have a broad scope, applying to people with temporary functional limitations such as pregnant women.

MEPs condemn the persecution of the Rohingya people

ECR MEPs have secured the European Parliament's support for a cross-party resolution condemning the attacks against the Rohingya minority in Myanmar.

The resolution calls for the Myanmar military and security forces to cease the violence immediately, allow humanitarian aid into the region and access for a UN Fact-Finding Mission.

ECR MEP Amjad  Bashir said: 'Myanmar has taken extreme action against the whole Rohingya community in response to the terrorist actions of a few individuals. They have gone well beyond an acceptable response.'
