Reform of EU’s Solvency II rules for insurers

Changing EU capital requirement rules for insurers so that listed real estate is treated like direct property investment could result in a sharp increase over time in investment flows to the industry from the continent’s largest pool of institutional capital, the CEO of the European Public Real Estate Association said at EPRA’s annual conference on Wednesday.

Study: Commission's 550 EPS rule will add costs to the energy transition

Applying the 550g emissions performance standard rule proposed by the European Commission as part of the Clean Energy Package may have significant unintended economic and systemic consequences for the clean energy transition. 

That is the main conclusion of an independent study commissioned by EURELECTRIC. 

Kamall on Brexit talks: EU27 must be willing to look at bigger picture

Speaking ahead of this week's round of negotiations on the UK's withdrawal from the EU, ECR Group co-chair Syed Kamall has argued that solutions to the big issues can't be found unless the EU27, as well as the UK, are willing to start looking at the bigger picture, which includes the future trading relationship. 

Speaking ahead of the talks Kamall said:

"I hope the clarity on the UK's negotiating position provided by the UK Prime Minister last week will allow for real progress at the next round of negotiations.

Pittella: Despite positive tone, we expect UK to turn nice words into actions

Following the speech by the UK Premier Theresa May in Florence on the future of UK-EU relations, S&D Group President Gianni Pittella said:

“We are pleased that Theresa May struck a more positive tone than her foreign secretary last week. We appreciate that there has been an opening up on some of the most sensitive issues of the negotiations. Nevertheless, more clarity and detail is needed to evaluate whether May's proposals can actually be turned into concrete actions.

Antoine Kastler elected as new EFFA President

The members of the European Flavour Association (EFFA) elected yesterday Antoine Kastler as its new President. Antoine has been in the flavour industry for over a decade. He brings to the role his company and association experience as Vice President of Flavours at Robertet, a flavour house based in France and as representative of the French National Association (SNIAA) at the EFFA Board. He also played an instrumental role for EFFA as its vice-President for four years.
