EU Public Prosecutor a 'big step forward' in fight against fraud but all member states should sign up

Strasbourg, 5 October 2017

The European Parliament today backed the creation of a European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO). The new office will have the power to investigate, prosecute and bring to trial criminal offences related to fraud against the financial interests of the European Union. The S&D Group welcomes the creation of the new office and wants to see it up and running as soon as possible.

Fundamental Rights Charter must be part of EU Withdrawal Bill, say children’s rights NGOs

Children’s rights organisations, under the membership of Eurochild, raise concerns over the UK Government’s rejection of calls to fully incorporate the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights into law; the UK Government believes that this was not necessary as a number of the Charter rights were already located in UN treaties which the UK Government have ratified. 

Child poverty infographic receives EU award

Eurochild received an award for its ‘Child Poverty Cycle’ infographic from the EU Joint Research Centre, the European Commission’s science and knowledge service.

 3 videos and 1 poster (infographic) were awarded for the use of facts in a clear and coherent manner. On the occasion of the JRC’s 60th anniversary, a conference on ‘Evidence for policy in a post-fact world’ was hosted in Brussels, Belgium where the award ceremony took place.

This solution would be the most efficient form of intervention and the most beneficial one for both electricity producers and for the end consumers.
