Environment Committee’s vote on RED II wrongly penalises conventional biofuels

Brussels, 24 October 2017The European Parliament Environment Committee’s vote to phase-out the use of biofuels by 2030 seriously undermines the EU’s climate and sustainability objectives. It diverges sharply from the latest draft proposal from the EU Council, which safeguards the role of biofuels in the renewable energy framework.
 

S&Ds call on Commission to introduce national minimum-income schemes to protect Europeans from poverty

In a report voted today in the European Parliament, the Socialists and Democrats succeeded in including a call on the Commission to introduce national minimum-income schemes, as well as funding possibilities for member states to set up such schemes.

S&D MEPs today called for the rule of not spending more than 1% of European GDP on the EU budget to be scrapped. The call came ahead of a vote on a resolution on the future financing of the EU in the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
