The European Parliament’s vote to increase the EU’s budget for 2018 fails to recognise the reality of public finances in the EU and the political fallout from continually demanding more taxpayer money, warned ECR budget spokesman Bernd Koelmel.
MEPs today endorsed an agreement that will see the introduction of electronic identity checks at the EU’s external borders. The ECR Group’s spokesman on the proposals, Jussi Halla-aho MEP, has welcomed the agreement which he views as vital to secure the EU’s external border and better manage the EU’s immigration system.

Today the European Parliament gave its green light to restrict the exposure of millions of EU workers to carcinogenic and mutagenic substances with the aim of saving 100,000 lives in the next 50 years. Through this first revision of the rules in 10 years, which limits values for 11 new substances and makes limit values for two older substances stricter, the Socialists and Democrats managed to push through an ambitious agenda for workers’ health.
Today the Parliament adopted the report on protecting fundamental rights of Roma people in the EU. The report recognises anti-gypsyism as a horizontal issue, and demands a range of policies from desegregation measures in public services to monitoring of anti-discrimination programmes. The ambitious report is a firm condemnation of the current predicament of Roma people in Europe, and a call to action for the Commission and member states.
