Aluminium sees “glass half full” after ETS trilogue compromise

Brussels, 10 November 2017 - EU negotiators yesterday agreed on a package of revised proposals for the Emissions Trading System phase four (2021-2030), including indirect carbon cost compensation. While governments will be allowed to compensate for such costs in a more transparent way, national compensation will ultimately depend on the upcoming revision of the state aid guidelines on CO2 indirect costs compensation.

S&Ds welcome final deal on the reform of the Emissions Trading System (ETS)

Brussels, 9 November 2017

After lengthy negotiations, representatives of the European Parliament, the Commission and the EU Council yesterday evening finally reached an agreement to reform the EU Emissions Trading System. The S&Ds pushed for ambitious measures to make sure that the system delivers the required 43% cut of CO2 emissions in ETS sectors by 2030.

Jytte Guteland MEP, who is the S&D spokesperson for the file, said:

S&Ds want more ambitious legislation to promote the use of renewables in transport

"Today the Transport committee in the European Parliament rejected a lukewarm proposal on use of energy from renewable sources. The S&D Group could not support the opinion on the Industry and Energy committee's final report, which was too limited in scope.

The S&D group clearly opposed a conservative attempt to weaken the ambition of EU renewable targets, instead calling for national binding targets on renewables for all Member States.

CO2 Standards for Light Duty Vehicles: High Octane Fuels to Play Major Role in Reaching EU Clean Mobility Targets

9 NOVEMBER 2017, BRUSSELS: The European Fuel Oxygenates Association (EFOA) welcomes the proposal for revised CO2 standards for new passenger cars and for new light commercial vehicles published by the European Commission, as it marks an important step towards greener mobility in Europe. The Commission’s Impact Assessment recognises that around 95% of vehicles on Europe's roads still have an internal combustion engine (ICEs), which means that upgrading ICEs and improving the quality of fuels will offer significant benefits.
