Pittella: Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia deserve to be included in Schengen

S&D MEPs have called for Bulgaria and Romania to be admitted to the Schengen passport-free area as soon as possible. They also insisted that Croatia should join as soon as it meets the technical criteria for doing so. The call came during a debate requested by the S&D Group in the European Parliament on strengthening the Schengen area.

S&Ds on the EU’s Common Foreign Defence and Security Policy

The European Parliament has been asked to give its advice on whether phosphates should be allowed in certain foods. Today these additives are rarely used in most EU-countries, but in some member states they are being used mainly in frozen vertical meat spits such as the doner kebab.   

Before approving the European Commission’s request to allow phosphates as food additives, the Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament want to have scientific information on their effects on human health.

S&Ds take lead in combating sexual and moral harassment in the European Parliament

Yesterday evening, the Bureau of the Socialists and Democrats Group established a working group to ensure the timely and concrete follow-up of the European Parliament resolution on sexual harassment, voted on 26 October. Joining the voices of women breaking the silence all over Europe, the S&D Group re-stated their firm commitment to promote respect and dignity at the work place.

Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) members re-elect Jean-Marc Leroy as their President

The General Assembly of Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) held today in Brussels re-elected Jean-Marc Leroy for one more mandate as GIE President. Jean-Marc Leroy has been member of the GIE Board since 2005 and served as GSE President from 2008 to 2012. He was firstly appointed as GIE President on 2015.

This morning [13 December 2017], Katherina Reiche, President of the German section of CEEP and Chief Executive Officer of the German Association of Local Utilities (VKU), was re-elected CEEP President by the General Assembly of the European Centre of Employers and Enterprises providing Public Services and Services of General Interest (CEEP).

Ms Reiche will work in close cooperation with CEEP Vice-Presidents Milena Angelova (BICA, BG), Tom Beattie (CEEP UK) and Filippo Brandolini (UTILITALIA, IT) until the end of their mandate in December 2022.
