The S&Ds call for a full investigation into the use of a military-grade nerve agent in the UK

The S&D Group strongly condemns the use of a military-grade nerve agent as a chemical weapon in the UK. This was an unprecedented attack on civilians in Europe. We call for all the necessary investigations to be carried out and if Russia is confirmed to be responsible, an appropriate response must be taken by the EU.

There is no time to waste in deploying EU-wide infrastructure for alternative fuels, say S&Ds

During a plenary debate in Strasbourg, Socialists and Democrats pressed the Commission for a stronger commitment to expanding the Europe-wide infrastructure for alternative fuels, as an urgent step in the transition to a low-carbon and a sustainable society.
 
S&D spokesperson on transport Ismail Ertug, who instigated this debate with the Commission, said:
 

S&D Euro MPs pushed towards harmonised corporate taxation to end tax race to the bottom

Today, S&D Euro MPs backed a set of proposals to upgrade the tax system in Europe and to ensure that tech giants such as Google and Facebook pay their fair share of tax.
 
The common corporate tax base (CCTB) together with the common consolidated corporate tax base (CCCTB) offer a new standard for the taxation of multinationals.
 
S&D Euro MP Paul Tang, who has drafted the report on the common corporate tax base said:

The European Parliament today adopted its draft guidelines for the 2019 EU budget. The European Commission will present its draft budget for 2019 at the end of May and then negotiations will begin between the Council and Parliament before a final budget is adopted before the end of the year.

Statement: Following the presentation to the European Commission of a joint inter-sectorial framework on ingredients listing and nutrition information

Brussels 14 March 2018. Alcoholic beverage sectors presented this week to the EU Health Commissioner a joint framework to voluntarily list ingredients and nutrition information, hereby opening a crucial phase: implementation by all sectors, not just the brewers.
 
EU Commissioner for Health & Food Safety Vytenis Andriukaitis welcomed the fact that the sectors had respected the deadline set by the European Commission for submitting a joint self-regulatory framework on the provision of nutrition information and ingredients listing.
