The S&D Group on a fact-finding mission to Israel and Palestine

Three months after US President Donald Trump announced the formal recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel, along with his decision to move the US embassy to the city, the S&D Group is conducting a fact-finding mission to both Israel and Palestine. In the course of the 5 days the S&D MEPs will get first-hand experience of the developments on the ground, with the focus on settlement activities including in East Jerusalem and Hebron. The delegation will also visit Am’ari Girls' School to meet UNRWA student parliamentarians.

S&D Group calls for the permanent EU exemption from the US tariffs on steel and aluminium

The S&D Group welcomes the US president’s plan to temporarily exempt the European Union from worldwide tariffs on steel and aluminium imports, 'as a first positive step' but calls for a permanent EU exemption from the tariffs.

CEEP joins forces with European Committee of the Regions by signing up to the #cohesionalliance

CEEP has joined the #CohesionAlliance, which was launched in 2017 by the European Committee of the Regions together with leading European associations of regions and cities. During the meeting of CEEP Public Services Board, Thierry Durnerin, chair of the Board, signed the declaration on behalf of CEEP, in presence of Karl-Heinz Lambertz, President of the European Committee of the Regions.

PES leaders welcome first steps towards fair taxation, reinforced social rights

There are welcome signs of progress towards a Europe that works for everyone, with strong social rights and fair taxation for everyone. This was the verdict of prime ministers and leaders from the PES family in their meeting immediately before the European Council today.

Leaders welcomed the presentation by Pierre Moscovici of the European Commission's proposal for taxing digital giants, describing it as an important first step towards a taxation system in which multinational corporations pay their fair share.

The leading trade association applauds EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström's efforts to reach a solid deal with the US.
 

S&Ds lead the fight against endocrine disruptors, a threat to the health of European citizens

Today, a group of citizens concerned about the use of endocrine disruptors - chemical substances affecting human hormones - came to the European Parliament to engage in a discussion with scientific experts and politicians. The discussion highlighted the extent to which we are all exposed to endocrine disruptors on a daily basis through products such as food packaging, clothing, cosmetics, children's toys and crops grown with certain pesticides.
 

Kosovo a step closer to visa liberalisation with the EU

The S&D Group welcomes yesterday’s ratification of the Border Demarcation Agreement with Montenegro, by the Parliament of Kosovo. This means one of the main obstacles for the Kosovar citizens to freely travel to Europe is now removed. The S&D Group has consistently supported visa liberalisation for the Western Balkans.
