Today, S&D Group president Udo Bullmann challenged the French president Emmanuel Macron on his speech for a ‘rebirth of Europe’ delivered in the EP plenary session in Strasbourg.

“It is not enough to play the Ode to Joy and walk on red carpets chanting the hymn. No, the European rebirth must happen through concrete political action serving the people, based on joint, responsible and above all European actions!
 

Energy-efficient buildings will save money and improve people’s quality of life in Europe

Kamall: Macron's proposals risk a return to a 1950s agenda

Emmanuel Macron's reform proposals risk returning the European Union to an outdated agenda of political integration, European Conservatives and Reformists group Co-chairman Syed Kamall warned today. 

Responding to the French President's address to the European Parliament, Mr Kamall said that while agreeing on the need to shake up the EU, the ECR Group could not support future plans for a bigger budget, harmonised corporate taxes, a unified social policy, a common asylum policy or a European minister of finance.

Today the plenary of the European Parliament will debate on the deal reached by the EU Council and the parliament’s negotiator, S&D MEP Simona Bonafè on waste management. The final vote on the four new legislative proposals will take place on Wednesday.
 
This legislative package is the result of the strong commitment of the Group of the Socialists and Democrats to achieve a sustainable economic and social model, despite the initial short-sightedness of the European Commission, most member states, and also other political groups in the European Parliament.

Philippines: The EU must react to EU Socialist official’s arrest and deportation

Following the arrest and deportation by the Philippines’ authorities of Italian citizen Giacomo Filibeck, PES Deputy Secretary General, who had been invited to attend the congress of the opposition party 'Akbayan', Enrique Guerrero Salom MEP, president of the Global Progressive Forum (GPF) stated:
 
“The GPF strongly condemns the deportation of PES Deputy Secretary General Giacomo Filibeck and calls on the Italians and the EU to summon the Filipino ambassadors.
