European Aluminium’s event on Industrial Policy unveils I+ Manifesto seeking to inspire 2019 EU elections

Brussels, 19 April 2018 – Today, European Aluminium launched its new I+ Manifesto during its public event New Industrial Policy: what role for strategic value chains? held in Brussels. I+ Manifesto’ is a voluntary online initiative to foster the debate about the EU’s role in industrial policies for the upcoming EU elections.
 

Led by the S&Ds, the Parliament states the need for widespread vaccination campaigns

A European Parliament resolution adopted today at the request of the S&D Group calls on member states to improve the public information available on the need for vaccination. Vaccines save millions of people from illness and disability in the world, and in Europe, they have eradicated diseases, like polio, but they could come back if general immunisation was to be undermined.
 

Winning the fight against terrorism and organised crime means winning the fight for financial transparency

The European Parliament today backed new proposals to tackle money laundering and disrupt the financing of terrorist groups and organised criminals.
 
MEPs Ana Gomes and Peter Simon, who were responsible for the revision of the anti-money laundering directive for the S&D Group, said:
 

European Parliament backs direct funding for NGOs fighting to protect democracy

The European Parliament today backed the creation of a European Values Instrument to support civil society organisations that promote fundamental values such as democracy and the rule of law in the European Union.

S&Ds: Philippines must stop killings under the pretext of drug war

On the initiative of the S&D Group, the European Parliament called today on the government of the Philippines to immediately put an end to the extrajudicial killings in the pretext of a ‘war on drugs’. Thousands of persons are believed to have been killed in a wave of illegal, extrajudicial executions during police anti-drugs operations.

S&Ds successfully pushed the European Parliament to condemn the killings at the Gaza border

The Socialists and Democrats played a leading role in adopting today a resolution by the European Parliament to condemn the killings and the injuring of many Palestinians by the Israeli army at the border with the Gaza Strip over the past three weeks.

The EU must do more to support investigative journalists

The European Parliament today passed a resolution on the protection of investigative journalists, following the murder of Ján Kuciak and his partner Martina Kušnírová in Slovakia. The resolution calls for the EU to do all it can to support the investigation into the murder and for new protections for journalists.
 
S&D MEP and chair of the parliament’s civil liberties, justice and home affairs committee, Claude Moraes, who co-chaired a recent fact finding mission to Slovakia, said:
 

S&Ds: The newly approved regulation on organic production and labelling of organic products is a key step forward for organic farming and for all consumers

Following the approval, by a significant majority, of the new regulation on organic production and labelling of organic products today in the Plenary, the S&D Group underlines how we would have liked to have gone further with this new regulation but, nevertheless, we recognise the very substantial progress made for organic farming and for the consumer.
