Udo Bullmann on his first trip as S&D leader to Portugal

This Saturday, the leader of the S&D Group, Udo Bullmann, visits the congress of the Portuguese Socialist Party (PS) in Batalha (Portugal). During his visit he will meet with Prime Minister António Costa, Carlos Zorrinho, the leader of the Portuguese S&D Delegation, as well as other members of the S&D family and journalists and will deliver a speech.

Summary

High time to address the challenge of climate change refugees

Every year millions of people are forced to flee from their homes, and in many cases their countries, because of floods, windstorms, earthquakes, droughts or other ravages of climate changes. Yet this phenomena - that is likely to increase - is almost neglected by international law and politicians in power. There is an urgent need to address this challenge and guarantee adequate protection for affected people - these are the main conclusions of the seminar organised today by the S&D Group.

Technology neutrality is key in decarbonising transport, also when it comes to battery technology

  • The need for batteries will rise in the coming years, with progressive hybridisation and electrification of transport as well as connected and automated mobility, but also in energy storage services and motive power applications
  • Both lithium-ion and lead-based, together with other battery technologies, will be used for the foreseeable future
