S&Ds: Improving the social and economic situation in Libya is key for stability in North Africa, Sahel and the Mediterranean

Following today’s vote in the plenary on recommendations to the European Council, the European Commission and the High Representative on the political, economic and social situation in Libya, S&D rapporteur and chair of the European Parliament’s subcommittee on human rights, Antonio Panzeri, stated:
 
“Libya is key to the stability of North Africa, the Sahel, and the Mediterranean. It is therefore crucial to reflect on the crisis in Libya in a wider, regional and pan-African context.
 

Commission proposal on the next EU budget lacks courage and strategy. EU citizens’ expectations are not met, says S&D Group

After the European Parliament adopted, by an overwhelming majority, the report on the 2021-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework and own resources, the S&D Group has expressed its disappointment with the proposal of the European Commission which plays a shell game with figures and lacks courage and long-term vision.
 
The S&D’s negotiator for post 2020 MFF, Isabelle Thomas, said:

The risk of re-nationalising Europe’s agricultural policy must be avoided at all costs when the CAP legislative proposals are published shortly.

S&Ds strengthen trade defence instruments to protect European jobs

Today, the European Parliament is set to adopt new rules to combat unfair cheap imports. Under the new rules higher tariffs can be imposed against dumped or subsidised imports from non EU-countries to better protect European jobs and industries.
