S&Ds: the European Parliament voted for the Budget 2019 and to overturn the Council’s selfishness and buck-passing attitude

Following the vote today in plenary and the adoption of the European Parliament negotiation position on the Budget 2019, general rapporteur and S&D MEP Daniele Viotti, stated:
 

S&Ds: On the expulsion of Bedouin communities from the occupied Palestinian territory, Israel shows not to be a healthy democracy

Following continuous pressure by Israeli authorities on Bedouin communities in the Negev and the West Bank, the forcible transfer of Bedouin families and the plan to dismantle the village of Khan al-Ahmar, the S&D Group sent a letter today to Israeli Ambassador to the European Union, Mr Aharon Leshno-Yaar, in which the Group raises its voice against these actions that openly contradict international law.
 
S&D Group vice-president, Elena Valenciano, said:
 

Accidental Americans: EU must stand up to US over double taxation of EU citizens

S&D MEPs today called for the European Commission to act to protect EU citizens affected by the US Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). The US is one of only two countries in the world to tax people based on citizenship rather than place of residence.
 
S&D Group spokesperson for the Parliament’s petitions committee, Virginie Rozière, said:

In the wake of recurrent tax evasion and tax avoidance scandals, and a year before the European elections, the S&D Group holds, with its partners, a TOGETHER conference in The Hague today on the topic of ‘Fair Tax - Stop the corporate tax race to the bottom’. 
 
The event is hosted by S&D Group president Udo Bullmann, the head of the Dutch S&D delegation, Paul Tang MEP, and several S&D MEPs. 
 

S&Ds welcome agreement on Greece and call for the EMU to become an engine for growth and sustainable development

During a debate in the European Parliament on the conclusion of the third economic adjustment programme for Greece, S&D MEPs called for an ambitious reform of the European Monetary Union to guarantee the overall sustainability of the Eurozone.
 
S&D MEP Roberto Gualtieri, chair of the economic and monetary committee in the European Parliament, stated:
 

S&Ds vote down attempts to undermine workers' rights in the road transport sector

After a long political battle, today the European Parliament rejected the attempts to further liberalise professional road transport and to weaken existing rights. Led by progressive MEPs, the Parliament rejected the three Commission proposals on the social aspects of the first Mobility Package - posting of drivers, working and rest time, and cabotage - and sent them back to the transport committee.
