Eight months ahead of the European Elections, Facebook has still not done enough to allay fears of electoral manipulation

Eight months ahead of the European Elections, more needs to be done to ensure that the elections are not subject to the same malicious interference that affected the US elections or Brexit campaign.

S&Ds win seven-year battle to end double EU food and products standards

The S&D Group led today a broad cross-party coalition to ensure that there are no second-class products, nor consumers, in the EU. With this vote, the European Parliament recognised the existence of dual quality of food and other consumer products, a practice that refers to the sale of seemingly identical products of lower quality, in some European countries. This is a battle the S&D Group has been fighting even before the problem become the subject of public debate.
 

S&Ds encourage all political parties to support the name agreement on North Macedonia ahead of referendum on September 30

On the occasion of Prime Minister Zoran Zaev’s speech in the European Parliament, Socialists and Democrats welcome the agreement reached in June by Prime Ministers Zaev and Tsipras to rename the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia “Republic of North Macedonia".

S&Ds call for more transparency in EU approval of pesticides to avoid another Glyphosate scandal

Trust in the authorisation of Plant Protection Products (PPP) in the EU has been seriously undermined by recent scandals and particularly by the renewal of the approval of Glyphosate. That is why Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament took the lead to ensure better legislation and enforcement.
 
Following the findings of the special committee on the Union’s authorisation procedure for pesticides (PEST), S&D MEP, Pavel Poc, drafted a report with strong recommendations that was backed by the European Parliament today.

We need an EU system to assess medicines and medical treatments, say S&Ds

In a report backed today by the environment and health parliamentary committee, S&Ds now call for the introduction of joint clinical assessments of health technologies at EU level.

oday, the S&D Group led a coalition in the European Parliament to establish a single digital gateway to reduce administrative burden for citizens and businesses across the EU. The gateway will facilitate the access of information on administrative procedures by lifting language barriers and physical presence restrictions. Citizens and business will now be able to access information and procedures in a single place, regardless of where they reside in the EU.
