    he 11th plenary session of the EU-Latin America Parliamentary Assembly (Eurolat) finished today in Vienna. The 150 participant MPs, from both continents, passed twelve reports and held an intense political debate over Venezuela.

    CJEU decision on Gilead’s SPC on Truvada® leads to successful clarification in English court

    An English Court has determined that the contested supplementary protection certificate (SPC) on Truvada® held by Gilead is invalid by applying the criteria laid down by a recent referral to the Court of Justice of the EU (CJEU). Mr Justice Arnold held that Gilead’s SPC failed the CJEU’s test as Gilead’s basic patent on which the SPC was based did not describe the combination of tenofovir and emtricitabine and did not specifically identify emtricitabine.
     

    S&Ds MEPs call for improvement of human rights situation in Turkey after recent visit

    At the end of their visit to Turkey in the frame of the European Parliament delegation, S&D MEPs Soraya Post and Wajid Khan acknowledged the work and efforts that Turkey is doing with regards to the integration of refugees. However, they insisted that much more effort is needed particularly in improving the human rights and the rule of law situation in Turkey.
     

    S&Ds: The Commission's closure of McDonald's case shows the need for minimum corporate tax rate and public country-by-country reporting

    Today, the College of Commissioners announced the closure of its investigation into McDonald's tax practices, which started in December 2015. The decision, put forward by the Commissioner for Competition, Margrethe Vestager, states that that the non-taxation of certain McDonald's profits in Luxembourg do not constitute an illegal state aid.
