Polish government must stop dismantling Polish Supreme Court!

Today, the European Commission decided to refer the case of the Polish Supreme Court law to the European Court of Justice and to ask the CJEU to order Poland to freeze the reform until it has issued a final judgment. Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament support the Commission’s decision, and urged the Polish authorities to respect the rule of law. 
 

The new Mexican law allowing collective bargaining paves the way for a trade agreement, say S&Ds

The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament advocate rules and standards in international trade and multilateral agreements to ensure that populations benefit from global trade. This is why in the EU negotiations with Mexico, they demanded the adoption of the International Labour Organisations (ILO) convention on worker unions’ freedoms and the right to collective bargaining.
 
This is why the S&Ds welcome the ratification of a new law by the Mexican Senate adopting such ILO convention.
 
 
 

Removal of the registration from Aquarius migrant ship is inhumane, irresponsible and shameful, says Bullmann

Following the Panama Maritime Authority's (PMA) decision to withdraw the registration of the Aquarius 2 migrant rescue ship, under pressure from Italian government, the president of the S&D Group, Udo Bullmann, said:

S&Ds demand national binding targets on alternative fuels infrastructure

Socialists and Democrats are committed to phasing out fossil fuels and to transforming the European transport landscape in order to make it sustainable for the health of people, for the health of the planet, and also for the health of everyone’s pocket.
 
Currently 94% of Europe’s transport sector is dependent on oil, 90% of which has to be imported. At the same time transport is the only major economic sector in the EU where greenhouse gas emissions have increased since 1990, thus weakening our efforts to meet the UN Climate Goals agreed on in Paris.
